Achievements


Achievement of the OKEON Project Field and Social Networks in FY2015

+ 24 research sites with 72 SLAM traps are established.
+ The system is established for collecting the material and data from 72 traps every two weeks and maintaining those traps.
+ The sorting and curatorial systems for the materials are established.
+ Met and had meetings with more than 150+ Okinawan people.
+ Cooperating with 28+ groups.
+ One report in the Research Bulletin of Environmental Education Center, Miyagi University of Education.
+ Nine media releases.
+ Yoshi has been selected as a committee member for an Okinawan prefectural project, the controlling invasive species.
+ Yoshi has been offered having six columns on a newspaper, Ryukyu Shinpo, for six months (once a month).

+ Lab space for sorting material and cabinets for the specimens were set up.
+ 600+ collection events, 6,000+ sorted vials, and more than 180,000+ insect specimens have been accumulated.
+ One technician and six staffs in the sorting team have been hired.
+ The sorting staffs have been quickly trained and more than 90% of the insect samples are sorted into the order level on time.
+ Reference collection of Okinawan ants was gifted from Mr. Takamine.
+ Three undetermined species of ants are recognized from the sample collected in the ants research program at the high schools.

OKEON project has been cooperating with at least 28 groups listed below

+ Tsuji Lab at University of Ryukyus
The main counter part for MOU. Two jointed grant proposals have been submitted. Jointed lab meetings were taken place. Planning with them that making theses using material from OKEON project.
+ Subtropical Field Science Center at University of Ryukyus
Helping establishment of the field sites at Oku, Yona, and two at the Campus in the Univ. of Ryukyus.
+ Ryukyu University Museum, Fujukan
Giving us advices on the curatorial system, on site localities, and connecting to the Okinawan community of conservation biology.
+ Okinawa Prefectural Museum
Providing us a cold space for storing specimens. Cooperation on their exhibition is planning.
+ Se-fa Utakim, the world heritage
Providing a site.
+ Kurashiki Dam

+ Nago Central Park

+ Nakagusuku Park
Providing a site. Suggested us some connections in the Okinawan society.

+ Hentona High School
Providing a site. Established an ant research team in their class program, and their research were selected in the 36th Exhibition of the Science-work by the students in Okinawa.
+ Kyuyo High School
Established an ant research team in their class program, and their research were selected in the 36th Exhibition of the Science-work by the students in Okinawa. We found several undetermined ant species in their material.
+ Futenma High School
Established an ant research team in their biology club program, and their research were selected in the 36th Exhibition of the Science-work by the students in Okinawa. We found an undetermined ant species in their material. It is the species, which is at least the first record in Japan.
+ Kaiho High School
Established an ant research team in their class program, and their research were selected in the 36th Exhibition of the Science-work by the students in Okinawa.
+ Higashi Museum
Helping us to get the permission to set up a site at the mangrove forest in Higashi son.
+ Community at the mangrove forest in Kesaji Gulf, National Heritage
They have accepted setting a site up at the mangrove forest area, and planning using the site for the local environmental education.
+ Bird Forest Nature Park, Uruma City
Providing a site.
+ Nago Museum
Providing a site and helping us to get the permission to set up a site at the Mt. Katsu-dake in Nago City.
+ Onna-Son Museum
Discussing the way to cooperation for the research on the natural history in the village.
+ Okinawa City Museum
Providing a site, and cooperated on their exhibition, helped us to make multiple connections to Okinawan Society, planning cooperation on their new exhibition.
+ Chatan Town Hall
Providing a site, gave us suggestions for setting soil sensors.
+ Sueyoshi Park (Naha City)
Providing a site, helped us to find a site in Sueyoshi Park.
+ Mori-no-ie Minmin
Helped us to find a site in Sueyoshi Park.
+ Yambaru Discovery Forest
Providing a site.
+ Southeast Botanical Gardens
Providing a site.
+ Ohyama Yam Farm

+ Mr. Takamine
